10 Reasons why everyone should learn Household Chores

In many families, especially in India, since I belong to India, it is believed that Household Chores are only meant for women. Earlier the environment was so patriarchy that women were not allowed to leave their houses to earn. It was like a privilege held by the men. However, gradually things are changing and the women are availed with the 'Permission' to work and be independent. But there is one thing that doesn't really seem to be changing that is the Household work. Even today, when women have started taking up jobs, they are supposed to take care of the household work all alone. Men after finishing their jobs take rest and do nothing whereas women help the children finish their homework apart from the household chores.

So here I give 10 reasons why everyone should learn Household Chores.

1. It is not a gender-based activity but a necessity.
2. Today's women are working just like men, they are no more mere housemakers.
3. Men may have to leave their houses for a career or education.
4. You can't have a maid for 365 days.
5. You can't survive on outside food every day.
6. Household chores cant be done single-handedly
7. It makes you completely independent

Let's have a deeper understanding of these points

• It is not a gender-based activity but a necessity.

Any work that has to be done is a necessity. In earlier times, the adjustment made was in a way where women took care of the house while men used to go hunting. But there is no thumb rule that the house can only be taken care of by men.

• Today's women are working just like men, they are no more mere homemakers.

Earlier the women didn't have any goals to achieve but now they do have. They have jobs, businesses, shops, etc. So, when men are not expected to work at the house after their jobs why are the women?

• Men may have to leave their houses for a career or education.

The world has become competitive. Now it is not just about earning and fulfilling the wants of the family. It is more about a career. So, people have to shift to other states or countries to complete their education or to do jobs. And this shifting can be all alone without the family. Hence, it becomes important for a person to learn all the household chores so that s/he can do it when alone.

• You can't have a maid for 365 days.

After the above point, many people may argue that we can get maid hire. So let me put this as well that it is not cheaper to have a maid. Besides even if you can afford one, you cant have them for 365 days. They may take leaves and have occasions not to come. In such circumstances, people become helpless.

• You can't survive on outside food every day.

Another argument here may come of the restaurant food. But my question is how long can you survive on outside food? Besides what about your health? 

• Household chores cant be done single-handedly

A house has several activities to be done like laundry, cleaning, cooking apart from taking care of the elders and the children. It is not the task of a single person. Hence, everyone in the house should know the work in order to contribute to the same.

• It makes you completely independent

When a housemaid takes a leave even for a day, people get so restless and helpless. They are often left confused as to how to manage everything. The present pandemics have brought many such cases into evidence. So, if you know everything, you will not have to be dependant on others for your work.

• It's a good way to spend more time with your family.

Today, when both the leading members or all the house members are the earning ones, it has become difficult to spend more time with the family. So if all of them, learn the work of the house, they will be able to do it together and will be able to time for each other.

• It develops good habits in children.

Children dont only learn through what is taught but also through what they see. So if you have children in the house, always make a habit of involving them in the household tasks. This will instil the same in them.

• It keeps the stress away.

When all the load comes on one person, s/he is bound to be more stressful than others. As a result, frustration is bound to develop. So if everyone learns the work, everyone will be able to contribute and reduce the stress of workload from one person. 

Thus, not one but several reasons have proved that leaning household chores is equally important for everyone.
