In many families, especially in India, since I belong to India, it is believed that Household Chores are only meant for women. Earlier the environment was so patriarchy that women were not allowed to leave their houses to earn. It was like a privilege held by the men. However, gradually things are changing and the women are availed with the 'Permission' to work and be independent. But there is one thing that doesn't really seem to be changing that is the Household work. Even today, when women have started taking up jobs, they are supposed to take care of the household work all alone. Men after finishing their jobs take rest and do nothing whereas women help the children finish their homework apart from the household chores.
